M.V. "Darwin"
Installation of Emergency Towing
Equipment and Associated Under Deck Stiffening Matatec were
approached by the vessels owners to tender for all the works involved in
installation of new Emergency Towing Equipment and all the associated deck and
under deck strengthening and stiffening. The Owners contacted Class
and meetings were arranged to discuss the whole perimeters of the job and the
facts that the works were proposed to be carried out whilst the vessel was in
service and on station off the coast of Ecuador. From the dialogue
with Class working, drawing were prepared for approval and submitted indicating
all the relevant strengthening and stiffening required to suit the Ships
structure, new Emergency Towing equipment, Smit Towing brackets and Panama
Fairleads. Upon Class approval of the working drawings, all materials
were ordered in line with the designated specifications and received into our
works where full Quality control procedures were carried out in respect of
identifying certification and Class stamps whilst the materials were in the
Quarantine area. Upon satisfactory acceptance by our Quality Control Manager
the materials were passed to our Fabrication department where various sub
assemblies and edge preparation works were carried out to save time at the
installation on board the vessel. All the sub assemblies were carried
and edge preparations performed to our various weld and steelwork procedures
and to the Class Surveyors satisfaction prior to shipment to the vessel.
When all the materials, plant and equipment had arrived on board, our
Labour and Engineer were sent out and the works were all carried out to the
Shipowners and Classification Society local Surveyors satisfaction.
