BLASTING
Corrosion is the worst enemy of the shipping world
and the failure of a preservation system will result
in tremendous steelwork repair costs, if left unattended.
Frequently, the life expectancy of a coating system
is not attained and shipping managers need to consider
the application of a new preservative. To undertake
blasting and coating of internal or topside structures
whilst in dock or laid-up, mean many days of lost revenue.
Matatec’s answer is to provide both shot or ultra
high pressure water blasting equipment together with
painting machines, plus skilled labour, and systematically
blast
and re-paint corroded areas whilst the vessels is trading.
Hence, saving lengthy down time in dock.
A new solution to add, to the normal procedures mentioned
above, is the use of “Rusteco”. We are
now working with the owners of “Rusteco” to
offer an alternative, in the form of a gel which is
sprayed onto the steel. The gel is then left for a
curing time and when washed off leaves the same surface
finish as blasting. The remaining liquid is totally
bio-degradable, thus does not cause any problems for
disposal. To find out more information about “Rusteco” please

To assist the ship owner Matatec can offer a full “Turnkey
Project” in looking towards a full survey, recommendation
of system best suitable. Fixed price costing,
including supply of all materials, consumables, plant
and labour complete with full quality assurance and
inspection acceptance package, alternatively, a labour
only arrangement in which the ships management supply
all the plant and equipment themselves. Flexibility
in the design of the project is entirely up to the
ship owner.
